Wentworth Visitor Centre

Project Overview

In 2019, Wentworth Shire Council accepted a tender from GSD Architects to undertake a major upgrade and redevelopment of the Wentworth Civic Centre.

The scope of the tender covered the overall project management and redevelopment, which included the vital relocation of the Wentworth Shire Library. GSD Architects were engaged to manage all phases of the project, including planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and the final handover of the new facilities to Council.

Centralised Services and Facilities

The redevelopment of the Centre has created a single, centralised hub for key Council and community services. The building now houses:

  • Council Administration Offices
  • Health and Planning Department
  • Roads and Engineering Department
  • Council Chambers
  • Wentworth Visitor Information Centre
  • Wentworth Library
  • Conference and Function Facilities
  • The Wentworth Historical Society
  • The Junction Café

Since the relocation of Council services to the refurbished centre in late 2024, the facility has served the community well, providing an efficient and integrated hub for various services and activities.

State-of-the-Art and Accessible Design

The Wentworth Visitor Centre is a state-of-the-art facility designed to be inclusive and fully accessible for all residents and visitors. Key features include:

  • Disability accessibility throughout the building.
  • A lift and accessible toilets.
  • A hearing loop in key areas.
  • Interactive displays in the Visitor Information Centre, providing an engaging experience for all ages.

This welcoming space truly caters to the diverse needs of the entire community.

Project Funding

Funding for this significant project was sourced from both State and Federal Government grants, including:

  • Public Library Infrastructure Grant (State Library of New South Wales) for the relocation of the Wentworth Shire Library.
  • Resources for Regions Program for the relocation of the Wentworth Visitor Information Centre.
  • NSW Government Local Roads and Infrastructure Program Extension for the construction of the Wentworth Library Outdoor Riverfront Gathering Space (Library Courtyard).
  • NSW Government Local Roads and Infrastructure Program for additional community facilities.
  • Federal Government’s Economic Development Program for the Wentworth Community Space and Convention Centre.
  • Joint Organisation Tourism Infrastructure Funding.
