Background

Wentworth Shire Council was successful in obtaining funding through NSW Government Resources for Regions program round 9.

The Resource for Region program has been running since 2012, providing support to communities across regional NSW impacted by mining. Round 9 of this grant program supports communities in regional areas with infrastructure and community projects to support economic and social prosperity.

One such program identified from Community was to develop an open space area in Dawn Avenue, Gol Gol. This project will provide residents with a naturally constructed landscape drainage basin with grassed areas and public shared way for community to access.

Due to future proposals for subdivision development in the Gol Gol area, and increased strategic land planning for future growth, this project was identified for funding through NSW Government Funding.

Council conducted a community consultation session with residents in the Dawn Avenue area in late 2024. Community informed Council on priorities that were important to them as residents, such as having a safe access space for all users and natural landscape spaces, this information will assisted Council in the development of this community space.

Council is currently looking to engage an external contractor to upgrade the Dawn Avenue storm water system before construction begins on the actual landscape. This project is due to be completed by January 2026.
