Junction Island Bridge

Wentworth Shire Council was successfully in obtaining funding through NSW Government Resources for Regions program round 7. The Resources for Regions Program aims to support the ongoing prosperity of mining communities in regional NSW by providing economic opportunities, improved amenity and positive social outcomes.

The funding from Resources for region program assisted Council in constructing a replacement bridge to Junction Island and creating a more suitable path and signage for visitors and community.

The new bridge and footpath have significantly improved the accessibility to Junction Island, allowing residents and visitors to explore this unique natural environment once again. Spanning over 1,100 metres, the footpath features informative signage that highlights the rich ecological and cultural significance of Junction Island.

The Junction Island bridge joins the Great Murray Darling Junction Reserve to Junction Island and provides visitors with a desirable vantage point to view the confluence of the Murray and Darling Rivers. This is a significant location that is rich in both European and Aboriginal history and culture and shows great potential as a major draw card for tourism to the area.
