Wentworth Shire Council received funding through the Local Small Commitments Allocation Program (LSCAP) for the upgrade of Fotherby & Junction Parks in Wentworth. The LSCAP was established by the NSW Government following the 2023 election.
Grant funding through the LSCAP, are one-off or ad hoc grants to support the delivery of small local projects. These could include upgrades to community centres, playgrounds and parks, and the delivery of welfare services, educational programs and community events.
Through a community consultation at Junction Park, feedback from residents had indicated they wanted to see shade sails installed as the play equipment was too hot in the summer months for children to use.
The funding from the program assisted Council in installing new shade sails over outdoor fitness & playground equipment in both Junction & Fotherby Parks in Wentworth.
The projects have benefited children, residents and visitors that use or visit Junction or Fotherby Park areas. Both locations are well utilised by tourists and residents, particularly at the Junction as it is a tourist attraction where the Darling and Murray rivers join, with park and BBQ areas for people to enjoy.
Council’s Parks & Gardens team project managed the supply & installation of the two shade sails. They also maintain 23 playgrounds & equipment areas throughout the Shire and conduct an annual maintenance & audit report program.
